ASP Board of Trustess spent an early morning at The Fort for the P.I.A. (Pinay in Action) Run. …..None of the BOT were optimally dress to run the events but Peng So and I made a quick decision to run the 1.6Km. The other events had already finished. Peng and I wanted to do more than just be “pretend” runners.
I’m more of a sprinter than a long distance runner yet my sluggish body had to match up with my hyperactive brain. When Peng said she wanted to run, I didn’t hesitate to join her.
I haven’t been paying attention to my health lately and this was a fresh break for me. I love early mornings. I usually do my yoga or my ballet workouts at the crack of dawn to the music of Lighthouse Family’s Lifted. As I ran with Peng, I was contemplating on doing this more often with my kids, if not, my Dad. There was something cleansing about running and being out with nature.
Majority of people do not know how to meditate because they function as action-oriented beings forgetting that what sets us apart from the other species in the Animal Kingdom is our capacity for thought processing. As others consider it as a waste of time, a lot of people do not realize that a lot of time is wasted because of superfluous action and reaction that had no preceding thought. Thought becomes a waste of time when it mostly feeds on counterproductive emotions, such as worry, guilt, anger, etc. Yet when thought is redirected to meaningful outcomes, it becomes a valuable tool for manifestion or accomplishment of your goals. I find meditation useful in cleansing negative emotions and thoughts. With each exhale, I breathe out my concerns and find myself more grounded to deal with the rest of the world.
People can meditate even when they are in action. Like running, of course. Forrest Gump couldn’t deal with all the emotions inside of him when his love, Jenny, had died and so he ran for as long as he could until he felt ready to come out of his depression and rejoin society. His running meditation was a far better outlet compared to those who have turn to addictions.
Throughout the run, I saw Dr. Tuazon and Dra. Pedrosa who were doing their own little family fun run with their kids. You can tell by their gear that they were not exatly athletic runners
but I loved their effort in spending meaningful activities with their children. Henry’s schoolmate, Rafa, was there with his father and sister. Too bad Henry wasn’t there. Next time, I will bring the kids along. I saw an old school buddy, Dr. Philip Cruz, who works with Campanera on the Senate Health Committe concerning vaccines. It was nice to reconnect again. Tessa Prieto-Valdes was also there and Dang didn’t spare a minute to have our picture taken with her. She was petite and I find her much prettier in person than on TV and print. I found her amiable too as she didn’t hesitate to pose with us.
Running just lifts a great deal out of you. The uplifting sight of the sunrise, the oxygen, the endorphins and most especially, the clarity of my mind weighed so much more to my sanity than my athletic performance.
At the finish line, I felt my old self again and I had decided that this is something that I wanted to do more regularly. ….It’s something I would recommend to others who need a break from world….Peace y’all
